I’m going to nominate this post; 127 RSS Feeds That All Designers Should Subscribe To http://colorburned.com/2008/11/110-rss-feeds-that-all-designe.html

It was by far the biggest post that I’ve had on my site and tripled the number of my site’s RSS subscribers. In addition to that it also had a similar effect on most of the other blogs that were listed.

I redesigned the web 2.0 family’s logos in an Origami style to illustrate their fragility, which received a huge amount of traffic, being picked up my Smashing Magazine and 37 Signals.

This was my first of Twitter follow lists called Twitter Good Follows: 10 at a Time. It includes marketing folk, tech, design and more. I was very inspired when I made it up and tried to include good info on each. Did I mention the one and only @imjustcreative made the list? http://emilwisch.com/2008/11/25/twitter-good-follows-10-at-a-time/

I got onto Twitter late and so missed most of this year’s posts. One piece that stands out is Brian Hoff’s tutorial on type. Good typography can make or break a piece and this piece laid out some reminders on how to get it right.

I have two blog posts which were what I think my best. I couldn’t decide which one to choose as they both were awesome for SEO as well as repsonses. So sorry for the dbl linking:

1. The Ten Pixel Method - http://www.wearenotfreelancers.co.za/view_item.cfm/title/the_ten_pixel_method

I think we coined a term with the 10 pixel method. It basically describes one of our methods of design when in a rush.

2. Why the new facebook sucks - http://www.wearenotfreelancers.co.za/view_item.cfm/title/why_the_new_facebook_sucks

We broke down the reasons why the new facebook design was not so good. We got an excellent response from it.

I work for a nonprofit org (cfcausa.org) and LOVE our latest blog post (it’s also received the most launch hits of our posts to date). It’s a video produced by our Guatemalan staff, showing the Las Posadas Christmas tradition. During the video, the community makes tamales, then we also have a text story AND the tamale recipe! I find the video to be an intimate look inside another culture, and love the added value of the extra elements. Thanks for checking it out!

I liked this - done inhouse, including the music. It was our Thanksgiving message to the people who partner with others living in poverty to help their families. I think it did it’s job in a brief and creative way.

I’d like to nominate the following post -

http://www.litmanlive.co.uk/2008/11/reaching-500-twitter-followers-does-it-mean-anything/

Reason being, it captured the hearts and mines of Twitter users across the board.. it was one of those simple ideas that people thought, why didn’t I do that? It’s a quirky and unconventional idea. I sent a cake to my 500th follower on Twitter with his @ handle to say thanks. It resulted in an increased level of traffic and blog posts about the original post.

One of my best and favorite blog post of 2008. On-line Copyright Infringement: 4 Ways To Remove Your Stolen Work.

My most popular post on fudgegraphics this year was:
http://www.fudgegraphics.com/2008/09/free-high-resolution-plain-and-grunge-paper-textures
(Free High Resolution Plain and Grunge Paper Textures).
These resources got the most traffic and even 3 months later still generate Stumble Upon visits. Many articles link back to it and many visitors left a comment saying how much they like the textures. I believe the reason for this is that the paper textures can be used in many different ways. Grunge style is very hot right now and this resources make an excellent background or overlay to give your design a more organic feel.

“2 Brilliant Ideas Don’t Make No Better One…Tips for Hiring a Graphics Designer”

This blog post is from a layperson’s and small business owner’s perspective (hence, I am not a designer–BY ANY MEANS, lol ;-)). Vendors, clients and people in general often comment on the quality and ingenuity of my marketing collateral (online & offline) for my business. The post points out 1. How I do it 2. Why small biz owners need to invest in themselves now to get a better return later and 3. Why the CLIENT needs to stay out of the ‘design & creative process’ esp. if they want really ingenius and the designer’s highest quality work ;-)
