Your Bestest Creative, Geeky Posts of 2008 - Part 2

Finally…

So here we are, just about a week from when I posted the ’shout out’ for Give Me your best creative post of 2008, here are the posts submitted by, not me, but you. I did not choose any of these posts myself, so this is not a Best Post Ever list based on my questionable ideals, these are without bias. At least from my perspective. So I can sleep easy on that one.

Huge thanks to those below that submitted. For those that are not on here, then this probably meant you didn’t give me a description of why you decided to submit the one you did. I don’t really want to just add a link, a description is useful. So sorry.

The submission cover a wide spectrum of creativity and geekery, which is awesome. The following posts are in alphabetical order of personal or website name.

Residents of Santa Teresita celebrate Christmas

I work for a nonprofit org (cfcausa.org) and LOVE our latest blog post (it’s also received the most launch hits of our posts to date). It’s a video produced by our Guatemalan staff, showing the Las Posadas Christmas tradition. During the video, the community makes tamales, then we also have a text story AND the tamale recipe! I find the video to be an intimate look inside another culture, and love the added value of the extra elements. Thanks for checking it out!

Web2.0 is not a Brand

What I DO know, and in this area thankfully, I have some expertise, is what Web 2.0 is NOT. And Web 2.0 is not a brand. And this post I tried to, well, explain stuff. :)

Twitter Good Follows: 10 at a Time

This was my first of Twitter follow lists called Twitter Good Follows: 10 at a Time. It includes marketing folk, tech, design and more. I was very inspired when I made it up and tried to include good info on each. Did I mention the one and only @imjustcreative made the list?

13 More Beautiful Pink for October Designs.

My favorite post of the year was a follow up one: 13 More Beautiful Pink for October Designs. It helped highlight a good cause and some very nice designs too.

Fudge Graphics -  Franz Jeitz

Free High Resolution Plain and Grunge Paper Textures

These resources got the most traffic and even 3 months later still generate Stumble Upon visits. Many articles link back to it and many visitors left a comment saying how much they like the textures. I believe the reason for this is that the paper textures can be used in many different ways. Grunge style is very hot right now and this resources make an excellent background or overlay to give your design a more organic feel.

Some posts just become, THE post. It’s a only a list I guess, but it’s a list of a subject that is totally popular with a lot of people. And I assume the name of the post helps in this case. Totally kick ass. :)

On-line Copyright Infringement: 4 Ways To Remove Your Stolen Work

One of my best and favorite blog post of 2008. On-line Copyright Infringement: 4 Ways To Remove Your Stolen Work.

Most creatives don’t know what to do when their work is ripped off. It’s easier to resolve then they think. It happens often and most don’t do anything about it.

2 Brilliant Ideas Don’t Make No Better One…Tips for Hiring a Graphics Designer

This blog post is from a layperson’s and small business owner’s perspective (hence, I am not a designer–BY ANY MEANS, lol ;-)). Vendors, clients and people in general often comment on the quality and ingenuity of my marketing collateral (online & offline) for my business. The post points out 1. How I do it 2. Why small biz owners need to invest in themselves now to get a better return later and 3. Why the CLIENT needs to stay out of the ‘design & creative process’ esp. if they want really ingenius and the designer’s highest quality work

Selene M Bowlby

http://www.idesignstudios.com/blog/web-design/wordpress-as-cms/

This was best/most popular post this year. All about how to use and customize WordPress as a CMS.

I should correct myself, LOL - the post above was my best on my own blog. At the risk of sounding greedy by listing two posts:

http://freelancefolder.com/15-top-site-elements/

(ED: Yes you are being greedy, but cheeky also and I like that), lol - I wrote a few guest posts for Freelance Folder, one of which was by far my most popular post ever (thanks to some Twitter love getting it on the front pg of Digg - and to that I say THANK YOU twitter friends!) :)

Chris Spooner - Spoon Graphics

The mind of a wondering software poet

The Ten Pixel Method

I think we coined a term with the 10 pixel method. It basically describes one of our methods of design when in a rush.
